One & Only Gorilla's Nest

Cushioned in the foothills of the breathtaking Virunga Volcano Range, One & Only Gorilla’s Nest makes the magical possible as you enjoy a once in a lifetime, personal encounter with the rare majestic mountain gorilla, roaming free in its own natural habitat.

With just 21 rooms and suites, this treehouse-style boutique hotel never feels crowded. Food is plucked from the chef’s garden-expect Rwandan cuisine with a European twist.

Gorilla’s Nest has a modular feel, with the Nest bar and restaurant, spa, Club One, rooms and main lodge all separately dotted down a gentle slope. The winding path that weaves through the grounds is lined by roses and abundant plants and flowers to Gove a sense that you are wandering through a garden.

The decor has been meticulously planned by interior designer Hubertus Feit to give a subtle sense of Africa but without too much colour, ensuring that the emphasis remains on the surroundings. Wooden floors and doors are lifted by patterned rugs and interesting pieces of local art.

There are few places on Earth more hospitable than Rwanda, and this is reflected in the level of service. The small pool at Club One is heated to 28C so it’s perfect whatever the weather, and a small sauna, steam room and icy plunge pool can also be found here. The spa is small but offers a range of treatments and its hard to beat a deep-tissue massage after a trek.
