If you are seeking a truly remote and extremely rugged landscape that is phenomenally beautiful, then Hoanib Valley Camp is the place for you – the style of the camp reflects its surroundings incredibly well too incorporating the rich and warm colours, wrapped up in rough textures and patterns inspired by the local Hoanib and Himba tribes people. All products such as baskets, chairs and tables sourced locally and made by the local people. The camp is run entirely on solar panelling and has an excellent ‘green’ ethos.
The wildlife found in around the camp range from the famous elephant herds that roam the arid area to the elusive desert lions. Zebra, Kudu and Klipspringers dot the mountain ranges along with springbok, giraffes and oryx. Morning and afternoon drives may involve going in search of the rare black rhino.
Other activities include visits to the local Giraffe Conservation Foundation – this is a must as one of the camps partners, Dr Julian Fennesy is Africa’s foremost giraffe expert. Nature walks, tracking black rhino and cultural visits and experiences with the wonderful Himba and Herero tribes people.
