The Fish River Canyon

Location: South of Namibia
Climate: Semi-desert climate Oct-Mar hot and wet, Apr-Sep drier and cooler.
Typical Landscape: Canyon landscape, second only to the Grand Canyon.

The Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world and the largest in Africa, as well as the second most visited destination in Namibia.  The gigantic ravine is 100 miles long. The Fish River cuts deep into the plateau which is dry, stony and sparsely covered with hardy drought resistant plants.

Best to visit between Apr-Sep when temperatures are a little lower, as they can become unbearable in the Summer.
