Zambia is located in the northern part of what is referred to as South Africa and 50% of the country is made up of National Parks and Game management areas. The 2 camps are both owned by the Cuming’s family and both offer the quintessential safari experience and focus on the wildlife and extraordinary African setting. These camps have a strict sustainable tourism policy and “Conservation” has always been more than just a word.
This multi-award winning camp is located on the banks of the magnificent Zambezi river – a hot bed for excellent game viewing and views. Each of the luxury tents boasts extraordinary views over the Zambezi and its resident wildlife and bird life.
The culinary team create tantalizing seasonal menus that are well received and well renound after and during your full day of exciting filled activities. The communal areas and bar are set under thatched roofs and have a viewing deck which provides one of the best views in the Zambezi. The accommodation is safari luxury and each tented suite has something undoubtedly inviting about them. A selection of exciting and wildlife orientated activities are on offer to guests from river safaris, fishing trips, photographic/viewing hides, canoe trips, bush walks and of course game drives. Chiawa is also the perfect place for special occasions- weddings, honeymoons, birthdays, anniversaries etc. and the camp will take a special effort to make it a particularly special stay.
Chiawa have been doing some renovations- the old honeymoon suite has now been replaced by the Camp’s new Safari Suite. We have received pictures and it does look fantastic, the new suite is designed especially for families and couples it is spacious, luxurious and private. The suite covers 220 square meters and has a thatched roof, canvas walls, screened windows and gorgeous reclaimed teak floors. The main bedroom that look out into the bush joins onto a luxury bathroom with his and her basins and free standing bath. The lounge area (with guest bathroom) conveniently turns into a second bedroom at night for family groups. The suite boasts its own plunge pool and large deck/verandah which has its own outdoor shower, dining table, day bed and fire pit. The suite has a library and selection of games as well as all amenities guests could ask for including private vehicle access – check it out.
The concept is simple and much like that of Chiawa, providing a safari experience focused on the surroundings and the wildlife without forfeiting all the luxuries in the process, Old Modoro is also known especially for leopard sightings too. With only 8 beds the camp is intimate, private and exclusive and the camp is remote and close to nature, being constructed with canvas, reed and other natural materials one is never cut off from the action. Just like Chiawa a selection of exciting and wildlife orientated activities are on offer to guests from river safaris, fishing trips, photographic/viewing hides, canoe trips, bush walks and of course game drives. Modoro being small and intimate is also another perfect place for celebrating special occasions.
