Great Plains have announced an exciting new sister camp to the wonderful and luxurious Mara Plains, Mara Nyika, which has settled its roots within the stunning Mara Naboisho conservancy. Nyika translates literally as ‘Large Plains’ or ‘Great Plains’ and with the sprawling Nyika plains stretching out as far as the eye can see, it is certainly a fitting name.
The accommodation you will find at Mara Nyika has had influence from the surrounding Acacia Kirkii trees, which dot the lands in an umbrella like fashion. The camp is snuggled low in a small valley on the plains, placed either side of a running river. The tents are raised over the bush so that you can take full advantage of the views over the bush.
The style of this camp is incredibly romantic and private, with winding walkways through the trees leading to secluded accommodation, eventually ending up in the main mess area.
Activities included morning and afternoon game drives in open 4×4 vehicles, horse riding and early morning balloon safaris can also be arranged at an extra cost.
