Kifaru
Location: Privately owned
Style: Luxury lodge
Highlights: Wonderful scenery and excellent guides
Dining: Meals eaten together or separately
Kifaru is named after the Swahili word for Rhino and this is pretty on point considering this lodge lies within the Lewa reserve renowned for its rhino rehabilitation and conservation centre. This camp incorporates materials throughout the lodge from the local communities from cushions, curtains, rugs, salad bowls down to dressing gowns and shampoo, conditioner and shower gels. Having recently undergone an environmental make over, the whole ethos of this camp is to conserve nature and help protect the community and surrounding landscape.
The food at Kifaru is delicious, simple yet nourishing and traditional at times – there is no fear one will ever go hungry when staying at Kifari though!
