Maputo
Location: Southern most point of the Mozambique Coast
Climate: Hot and wet Dec – Mar, warm and dry rest of the year
Typical Landscape: Portuguese architecture, historical buildings, markets
Maputo is Mozambique’s capitals and its economy centres around the harbour. Maputo is the culmination of several cultures, with a strong South African influence, as well as the Bantu and Portuguese cultures dominating, and then also the influence of Arab, Indian and Chinese cultures. The cuisine and culture is colourful and infectious in its liveliness. Markets and small shops line the streets, and friendly residents will welcome you to their city. Historically fascinating and architecturally beautiful, this is not a bad stopover for a night or two.
