Shahpura Bagh
What we love: the charm and hospitality of the family.
This green oasis in the desert state of Rajasthan is a result of the late Rajadhiraj Nahar Singh mortgaging the family jewels in order to bring water to the local community. His direct descendants still live here and welcome guests to their palace. The family and their staff, many of whom have worked for the household for generations, ensure guests experience an authentic home stay, but in grand surroundings.
The 11 rooms are individually decorated with white lime plaster floors, hand blocked curtains and vibrant colours have been carefully chosen to compliment the family’s antique paintings and photographs and all are an excellent size with balconies. The Royal Suites have very high ceilings and there are 2 Luxury Villa Suites with private terraces and outdoor showers which also make a good option for families or friends travelling together. The food is highlight of your stay here with recipes that have been passed down through the generations and local fresh produce is guaranteed here. The grand dining hall is a reminder of days gone by.
Days here are about escaping the busy cities and lying by the stunning swimming pool or taking leisurely walks around the lakes set amidst 45 acres of gardens. Bullock cart tours are available as well as many other activities. There is a Yoga class on the terrace at dawn. Enjoy sundowners at Dhikhola Fort with the sun setting over the rice paddies. Private dinners can be arranged here.
