Mountbatten Lodge
What we love: the enormous suites with plunge pool and the family’s artefacts creating a homely feel.
Nestled in the rugged Aravalli hills, just 4 luxury suites make Mountbatten Lodge a truly unique hotel in Rajasthan. Said to be inspired by tales that Lord Mountbatten camped here, the charismatic owner, Reggie Singh, has created a little bit of paradise. Perfectly situated between the Ranakpur temples and the Kumbalgarh wildlife sanctuary there is plenty to do and see here. The owner, drawing inspiration from his family’s heritage, has reflected their love of safari and outdoor pursuits in the furnishings, antiques and family photographs creating a warm and cosy atmosphere.
Each of the four suites is extremely spacious and light and have large private outdoor sitting areas with fire pits and private plunge pools. Two of the suites have fireplaces and all have the most amazing stone and marble bathrooms featuring built in massage beds, double rainfall showers and enormous bath tubs. Two of the suites are entered via a shared sitting area so are ideal for families or couples travelling together.
The chefs prepare only the freshest and most seasonal meals served under the spreading branches of an ancient Banyan tree or in the tented dining room. Private dining can be set up in different locations around the Lodge. Enjoy an after dinner drink in the Lodge bar which is decorated in the style of a traditional colonial hunting lodge.
Activities are extensive. Sundowners set on a hill giving an amazing view of the surrounding countryside. The mobile camp that can be set up in leopard country is extraordinary – Rajasthani style tents with en suite bathrooms and campaign furniture transport you to the days of the Raj. This exclusive camp will be set up while you are on a game drive looking for leopards and you will return to a lit fire and a bar set up to welcome you. Riding safaris can be arranged combining the mobile camp and the Lodge riding stunning Marwari horses.
