Dera Amer
What we love: having the camp and the elephants to ourselves.
Set in an 180 acre sanctuary, Dera Amer offers a unique and special opportunity to stay in an exclusive luxury tented camp and the chance to interact with India’s famous elephants. The Singh family acquired the land here in 1981 and vowed to return this land to its natural state. They have been resolute in their ambition to allow both domestic and wild animals to roam free here and allow guests to see a more agricultural way of life in Rajasthan. Luxury safari style tents with attached bathrooms are located in acres of wild scrubland in peaceful settings. Bespoke Raj style campaign furniture has been crafted by local artisans giving a feel of mobile camps of old. In the evenings enjoy a drink around the campfire while a barbeque dinner is prepared. The highlight of your stay here is the interaction with their rescued elephants – feed them bananas, help with their daily early morning shower or go for a walk on foot through the Saluwar forest with these gentle giants. You can also enjoy the company of the two resident camels who were rescued from a life of hard labour in Jaipur and will be happy to show you around the local area from the comfort of a cart. The wonderful staff here are from the local villages and many have been here from the beginning. They will ensure you have a comfortable stay.
