This award winning wellness retreat in the foothills of the Himalayas was the dream of its founder, Ashok Kanna, who had travelled the length and breadth of India to find the perfect location. In ancient India, holistic living was a way of life and Ananda is seeking to restore this balance to their guests’ lives. The former palace of the Maharajah of Terhi Garwhal, also known as the Viceregal Palace, has had a rich and interesting history, but now, completely restored, offers guests a step back in to a grander age, but with the service and style of the world’s most luxurious hotels. Features have been carefully restored in particular the billiards table which is the oldest in India. Take a look at the Viceregal Hall and imagine how it looked when it was the Maharajah’s ice skating rink. Guest rooms and suites are newly renovated and all have balconies, luxurious bathrooms with bath tubs with LCD TVs and all offer panoramic views. There are 3 Garden Suites looking either across the valley or at the Palace and they have secluded private gardens and separate bedrooms and sitting rooms. The Ananda Suite is larger and has private sitting and dining areas, but also a large garden with a gazebo perfect for private dining. With a private terrace and rooftop gazebo, the Viceregal Suite has a period four poster bed and beautifully appointed dressing room and bathroom. Ananda also has 2 two bedroom and 1 one bedroom villas which come with a private swimming pool. These offer the ultimate in privacy and luxury for families or guests travelling together. Food here is based on the Ayurvedic principles of not just taste, but suitability to body type. Fresh, natural foods which are free from additives and preservatives are skillfully prepared. The signature wellness programmes are individually designed for each guest and will ensure that your mental and physical balance will be restored. A beautiful swimming pool, a 6 hole golf course and picturesque nature trails are just some of the activities offered here.
