Or just want some time to be totally immersed in nature with a “back to the bush” atmosphere that centralizes on the wildlife and wilderness experience; then you need to stay at the brand new “Star Bed “ tower at Chiawa Camp. This is a unique star drift experience for the 2023 safari season.
The award-winning family owned and operated Chiawa camp needs no introduction, and the Star bed is located just downstream of camp, perfectly positioned on the banks of the Zambezi River and over-looking “Scouts Hollow”, an inlet off the Zambezi River where all types of wildlife drink, day and night. The area is still unspoiled and is afforded a high level of protection by the Zambian Government and the local tour operators.
The star bed is around 4m high and has stunning panoramic views and features a beautiful queen size bed with pure cotton linens, a large bathtub, wash basin and flushing loo, and what could be more spoiling then relaxing in a hand drawn bath whilst sipping on crisp bubbly on ice before dinner.
Under the vast African skies, you can view the nocturnal creatures from your bed should you wish using the red-filtered flashlight that is supplied, and there is also a 2-way radio for just in case so you feel you can totally relax and enjoy the incredible experience. There are approximately 50 mammal species and 400 bird species, which thrive in the park, as well as a wide variety of spectacular trees, grasses, and flowers.
This luxurious experience offers a 4-course dinner under the stars whilst drifting down the Zambezi River on custom built, stable pontoon boats with a canopy that can be raised or lowered according to circumstance and powered by near silent environmentally sensitive 4- stroke outboard motors. Thus, giving guests the opportunity to see more of the river and perhaps the Zambian wildlife whilst indulging in food of the highest standard where all dietary requirements are catered for, and an imaginative menu served up under the stars.
This experience with or without the floating dinner, is available at a surcharge of $400 per couple or single per night and due to its popularity should be reserved well in advance.
If you’re an intrepid photographer, then this experience should appeal to you as the tower’s ground floor is superbly set up and designed to give you fabulous photo opportunities whilst in comfort. This is available to all guests to use at no extra charge. There is a vast array of resident wildlife. Elephant, lion, leopard, hippos, and many more that occupy this gorgeous region of Zambia.
After a night under the stars, coffee/tea along with a continental breakfast will be delivered at a wake-up time of your choosing so you can experience a gentle and unhurried experience.
The best time to visit is from May – October as the river attracts an exceptional number of wildlife. This experience disconnects you from the internet and reconnects you with nature, yourself, and your loved ones.
