Duke’s Camp East

Opening in May 2023- Duke’s East is an intimate 4 room luxury tented camp overlooking a seasonal lagoon in the northern Okavango Delta.

Duke’s East is the smaller sister property to Duke’s Camp, set in the same beautiful and game rich area and offering the same safari experience with a more intimate setting. With a vintage safari style which has become synonymous with all the Ralph Bousfield’s Camps, Duke’s East will appeal to travellers looking for an elegant camp echoing glamour of a by gone safari era.

The main mess area is a delight with its old-world glamour, well stocked drinks cabinet, library and lounge furnished with intricately carved tables, antique oriental rugs and campaign furniture. Meals are a lavish affair of crystal glasses and antique silverware, three-course dinners that celebrate the Bousfield tradition of honouring guests with fine food and wine in the African Bush.

With just four tented rooms, Duke’s East is ideal for those looking for a more intimate safari, or for larger families and groups looking to book a camp exclusively. The interiors are rich with Persian rugs, hand carved four- poster beds, leather armchairs and mahogany dressers.

The camp offers 1 double tent, 2 twin tents and a family tent – all set on raised wooden decks and sweeping views of the floodplains. All the tented rooms at Duke’s camp are en-suite with both indoor and outdoor showers to suit all preferences. The main area consists of a spacious mess tent of old-world glamour, a communal dining area and a swimming pool pavilion.

Activities at Duke’s Camp include morning and afternoon into evening game drives on the private concession as well as exploring the waterways by mokoro. Fly camping is also available and is an opportunity to spend a night camping out on a pretty palm island -sleeping under the stars with just a simple mosquito net and bed roll. Ideal for the intrepid travellers looking for an authentic and adventurous experience.

Duke’s East and Duke’s Camp are located next door to each other- on a private concession, and an isolated corner of the northern Okavango. The camp sits below the shade of old leadwood and ebony trees- on the shores of a permanent lagoon.  The camp sits on a 220,000-acre concession-adjoining the Moremi Game Reserve and just north of the famous Vumbura and Duba Plains camps.

The landscape around Duke’s East and Duke’s Camp is a beautiful patchwork of habitats-palm islands, shimmering lagoons and winding channels lie between savannah grasslands and shaded woodlands. A varied mix of eco-systems attracting a wonderful array of wildlife.

In the extraordinary northern Botswana landscape, you’ll be left in the experienced hands of exceptional safari guides, honed -in the bushcraft and lore of this World Heritage Site, the Okavango Delta. There are few better ways to experience one of our world’s last true wilderness areas.
